Theme #1: Home

January 20-February 10: HOME

My new faculty advisor seems more than willing to help me kick my own ass. I'm so happy. I have set assignments for myself that will last three weeks apiece, until early May. At that point, I'll begin a large spinoff of my 'animal journey' painting, probably acrylic on wood panel.

The first theme I've set deals with 'home'. It's too cold to go anywhere and I want to be with my boyfriend before he leaves for the next 7 weeks to work in Florida, so i have set up a mini-studio in the living room. Been painting vignettes of domestic scenes on rescued pentagons of wood.

Also making some iPhone drawings on a simple app called Doodle Buddy. Been making these for over a year now, but I have a neat plan for displaying printing them on lifelike iPhone 'frames'- need to research casting processes.

RESIDENCY 2: January 2013

Pictures from my second residency:
Started by filling the wall with the scrolls I've made over the semester.
Thinking about A.D.D., overstimulation, a glimpse into a busy mind. Neat to see it all together.
Wasn't happy with the direction critiques were going, so I pulled everything from the wall, piled it up, and wrote this note. If my work was about being overwhelmed, I wanted to present it more authentically, darn it!

After some compliments on this 'performance art' and really earnest inquiries about my emotional well being (which made me feel like a big jerk), I tried another arrangement.

This is what I ended up with. My goal is to focus on the themes of the work rather than the feelings behind it. The feelings will always manifest themselves-- but this way i'll gravitate towards order rather than roll around in chaos.

Ready to make some new stuff!
